Wad van Waarde: Regenerative Design for a Plastic-Free Future

Long description

Wad van Waarde is a Dutch initiative rooted in the UNESCO Wadden Sea region. We tackle plastic pollution through regenerative design and circular thinking, using locally grown flax as an alternative to synthetic textiles. Our local value chain brings together farmers, designers, makers, and educators to create biobased products such as linen curtains, clothing, and bags—plastic-free, reusable, and biodegradable as a means to achieve system change – from plastic soup to veggie soup.

We’ve reintroduced flax as a regenerative crop since 2021, this year 81ha. Our model reduces emissions, creates meaningfull work, restores soil, and boosts biodiversity.

Wad van Waarde combines functionality, aesthetics, and storytelling to shift consumer mindsets.

We’re scaling our impact regionally and beyond. Wad van Waarde will lead to the Wadden Standard — a new benchmark for products: healthy for people and the environment.
