Long description
Printing Herbarium reimagines surface design through the lens of sustainability, questioning the environmental cost of traditional printing methods while proposing living, regenerative alternatives. This project explores alternatives to traditional screen printing by integrating living organisms into the process, replacing synthetic flock and chemical binders with living moss.
Guided by a phytocentric approach, the project blends botanical systems with printmaking and co-creates living textures that evolve over time, embracing nature’s rhythms instead of resisting them. Through the hacking of conventional tools and the design of micro-environments that support growth, the project proposes a future where surfaces breathe, grow, and transform. It also promotes a circular model of making—one where materials are alive.
Printing Herbarium positions sustainability as a generative force—inviting a future in which design collaborates with nature, rather than extracts from it.
