Kantamanto Social Club is an upcycled fashion collective committed to reclaiming space for historically marginalised communities. We challenge dominant narratives by amplifying voices that are excluded from global discussions on environmental and economic sustainability.
At the heart of our work is Kantamanto Market in Accra, Ghana, West Africa’s largest second-hand textile market and a hub for circular fashion. Every week, over 15 million discarded garments from the Global North flood the market, a result of extractive economies and waste colonialism. Yet, Kantamanto is not a passive recipient but a force of innovation, where the community regenerates fashion through reuse and upcycling.
Through exhibitions, storytelling, and research, we celebrate resilience while advocating for systemic change in waste governance, sustainability, and fashion education. Rather than looking to the Global North for solutions, we believe that the Global South has long been leading the way in sustainability.
