A nonprofit up-cycling post-consumer textile waste into one of a kind garments/artworks alongside minority designers, artists, and creatives.
Long description
junkYard is a low-waste, artist collective striving to offer everyday people a more circular, sustainable, alternative to purchasing, replacing, and donating clothing. As it stands, thrift stores are one of the few options, outside of trashing, accessible for people to get rid of their clothing. Functioning as a physical store, studio space, and community center, we connect people to local artists and designers to turn their unwanted garments into one-of-a-kind pieces. By working directly with a craftsman, we hope to directly educate consumers on what goes into creating garments while teaching our creatives how to embrace sustainability through secondhand materials. Additionally, by knowing where all our materials are coming from, artists can create transparently and develop a storyline for where and when each component was received. Garments donated, but not reworked for a client, are deconstructed and added to the materials/resources available for our creative team to use however they please.
