Long description

Founded in 2024, fufu is a design research studio creating climate-conscious, culturally rooted solutions to dismantle food apartheid. Through an expanded Human-Food Interaction framework, we call design-under-food, we expose how colonial residues shape Black communities’ sensory, environmental, and systemic relationships to food. Our approach uses design as infrastructure, spanning upcycled food prototyping, participatory storytelling, and strategic installations. We rebranded Ikenga Wines, a biodesigned palm wine company grounded in Nigerian cosmology, and co-designed Postage and Produce with the Museum of Craft and Design, bridging food access and USPS’s legacy of community care. An early prototype—a Jamaican hand pie made with rescued ingredients—offered a glimpse of what circular, culturally resonant food design could look like. It seeded our commitment to place-based offerings designed with communities, not for them. Fufu is feeding us, for us—and for everyone who dreams alongside us.
